The Beginning

December 20th, 2011 : Decided to start an online blog to capture the process and fruition of an idea to remove what useless creation that is the suburban lawn. Just as a horrible relationship it takes far too much effort to culminate with nothing to show for itself. In its place will be several fruitful growing beds with rich soil supporting a years worth of food. So far 17 beds have been able to be mapped out. Each bed comprising 100 square feet. The Bio Intensive method of "double digging" the beds will be utilized, aka digging them down to 24" to create a well fluffed up soil allowing the roots to penetrate deeper and the plants to grow more successfully. You can see the method in detail | video here : John Jeavons

    1. Thanks! Managed to finish the trellis sidewalk borders today. The front yard is pretty much near there. Only bits left now is to build the trellis along the driveway for the climbing bits such as pole beans and cukes. I still have 3 beds that we weren't able to dig out before it finally froze but the soil is on the edge again of being forcefully worked. May finish soon enough. There is a whole crop of things waiting to go out that are a couple weeks old now. I grin at the mischievous eagle corn sprouting in its little 2 liter bottle terrarium under the stairs... We'll be sure to keep you in the loop.
