Grocery Shopping @ 4 AM

I'm positive that a bit of the magic has worn off for a number of you seasoned gardeners. No doubt when you return to actually thinking about it there is appreciation. However, for myself, this being the first year of a non-hobby garden. It is utterly convenient to stroll outside with the cat at 4 in the morning to pick a pound of fancy pants lettuces for a healthful bowl (or two...depends on if we are using the Bodeen one. ;) ) of salad. Heat up a few buttered tortillas and you have the makings of a Third-shift Man's lunch.

Hmm. Let's see. We have 1st man and his wonderful blog. We have 2nd man in his adventuresome ways. Thankful not so adventuresome to be hurt recently! Now, I am wishing to add myself to the mix boldly. Third-shift man!

What do you think? ;)

11.6 oz [curly reds/greens, mustard, arugula, onion, green/red romains, radishes]

  1. Nice greens! And I don't think that magic goes away - each time we harvest fresh from the garden we're reminded of it :)

  2. Love it! You can be 3rd shift man! Buttered tortillas and fancy pants lettuce, it couldn't get any better than that. I love too that you have a "helper" at 4am. I bet that was a happy kitty getting to roam around in the early morning hours.

Side note, the other day I was perusing some seeds for greens and in my head I kept hearing "fancy pants lettuce, fancy pants lettuce". You have coined a new term and when I get my salad greens table replanted here shortly (going for the micro greens since it's a bit hot for full greens, down here anyway) I'm going to call it the fancy pants lettuce table. Stay tuned. :-)

  3. Keep this good stuff up and I'm going to send all three of you plane tickets to come live with me. 1st. Man can be my interior decorator and lawn boy, 2nd. Man can bake the bread and cook my meals, and 3rd. Shift Man can grow the good veggies. I'll just sit around and....and...well, vegetate. I can be your "Cougar Granny"! LOL!
