Cat on the Run

Here it is late on a Tuesday.

Some new things have popped up today. My roommate showed up from a visit back to Ohio. Turns out he want to move back. So, on my day off from flying due to snow cover... I spent the afternoon moving what few belongings  (too much for my tastes) back to a storage unit in town.

The lovely thing... well, now I am without anyone to care for Mr.Pickles in my absence. Turns out, he is coming with me on the road for the last few months of the flying season.

Yup. One 14 1/4lb cat and me in a two person tent. Enjoying the road life. Hmm... Should make for much more interesting video instead of me rambling on about Tents.

Dear God... I hope this works out. :-/

  1. Oh, dear. I hope he doesn't try to find his way back home (Mr. Pickles, not the room mate). Is he halter/leash trained? If not, it might be wise to try to get him used to them.

    1. Nope. Sad to say, Granny. It isn't the best option for him at all. Just the only option at this point. My. How the last year has changed. Started a garden with house etc. Now its a man and his Cat on the road, looking for a new path. :-|

I know it will work itself out over the next few months. Transitions are scary sometimes. However, as I sit here in thought, typing, I know it will work out.

My only hope is that the cat isn't too traumatized by the whole process as much as im happy to have him so near.

Thank you kindly for the reply.

    2. Let's hope his bond with you is strong enough to adapt to the change. You never know with animals. In the past week, my 5-year old Annie has jumped out of the car in busy store parking lots...twice! She's never done that before. Both times she just started to wander off, without any regard to my frantic calling. Both times I had to run after her (thank heavens she's fat and slow!) and pull her back to the car and lift her back onto the seat. She weighs about 35 pounds, and normally I can't lift her. Being scared something could happen to her gave me super strength I guess, I hardly noticed the weight. Anyway, I'll certainly be sending good vibes for you and Mr. Pickles, and hoping all turns out well.

    3. Thank you! I do not doubt the bond, nor the one of Annie and yourself. The outer-world though is big and does strange things to the senses of them. They get overwhelmed with the scents etc. Its almost autistic.

Im happy it turned out well for you two. Im sure you would be crush as I would be.

Humans form such strong emotional bonds with their surroundings. It is impressive we aren't hurt more than we end up throughout life.

  2. Wow, what a new adventure you will have. Have you thought about litter box and such? I can't imagine doing that with mine, I have no doubt they would be absolutely traumatized. But I've seen many cats adapt well to change. Granny had a good idea with the harness training, he might adapt to that too. Another note, if he isn't microchipped, you might want to consider that with your cell phone/contact number.

I'm gonna worry (as will Granny I'm guessing) about you both and sending good thoughts your direction as well. Safe travels!!

    1. He is Microchipped. Im thinking of getting a gps collar though. Chips are good if he is found and at a vet. The gps may be more useful to attempt locating him before.

  3. I really hope you can find an alternative situation for your kitty. Cats don't do well with travel (especially air as it's really hard on their ears) so for his sake I hope you have another friend to help babysit.

    1. It's for his sake that I never brought him on the road with me. However, I no longer have any options. When we are flying, Im not climbing up any higher than 5000 Feet. Generally less. Relocation flights are no more than 6 hours in the day for a long one. There should be very few of them left to do with only two months to go. For the most part he will have to remain in the tent while Im working. It isnt what I wanted to do in the first place but saddly, Its going to happen regardless.

      Thanks for the comment.

    2. I'm not criticising your choice of lifestyl and find it facinating watching your journey, but I am worried about little one. He'll be fine in the tent, it's just cats really don't do well in the air. We usually sedate cats if they have to be transported and in-presurized cabins only. But i do hope it will turn out for the best for both of you.
