Fireplace and Cooking. #39 - Video

Over the last few days I have been having a go with making bread. Easy enough. The interesting bit has been trying to incorporate the stainless steel fireplace into the mix. At first, I would place a tava on top of the box while supporting it with a few pieces of tile. Quickly realizing... the next day instead taking all of the bricks off and tossing the bread directly onto a hot fireplace. Impressed. It seared the bread quickly. Flipping it over for the other side. Poof! Ready for butter and consumption. :)

The Ikea Tiny House has morphed into looking like a Rubiks cube at night.

Cooking Naan on the fireplace.

There has to be hot coals and a raging inferno. Me Thinks.

  1. Brilliant solution. And naan, one of my favorites. Of course, I love all flatbreads, tortillas, lavash, pita, etc. Warm house, warm bread, warm kitty...life is good, right?

    1. Life is looking up! At least even on the 'bad' days it still looks even. ;)

  2. That made me hungry.

We used to have a hearth stove, and I loved it for cooking. I always had a Dutch oven of stew, soup, beans or whatever simmering on the top of it. I never thought of using it for bread. Now we have a propane insert in this fireplace, so the only thing it cooks is whoever happens to be sitting near it.

    1. haha. Hilarious. The idea of cooking stew, soup, beans, or whatever is quite appealing! I can see myself utilizing it this winter. During the day when it is sunny and the batteries are full, I could cook dinner/lunches etc, then place it into a crockpot ceramic insert. Take that ceramic and place it on top of the stove to keep it warm all day without having to use any electricity. Hmm.
