Long days of summer.
Note : As delicious as Okra is when it gets to six plus inches, it is much better to pick them at half that. Although both sizes are perfect for straight off the plant fresh eating.

Harvest
Several days ago we pulled out most of the broccoli plants. They had done a great job of producing lovely medium size heads and numerous side shoots. The new leaves were growing in more and more wild looking. Smaller and jagged. Out of the 30 in the front there is six remaining.
I am now left wondering what to plant in its space. Also the space once held by the jumbo onions. And soon to be the potato bed. I really should dig them up, though, cautiously not wishing to because I do not think many are in there... *shrugs*
Well, Moly Holy. Turns out we grew a 6 incher! :) I feel much better now.
A week ago we harvested a pound of golden beets. Just the beet root. Then upon going to the grocery store I noticed that you pay by the poundage and it is still attached to the greens. ERG. There goes my statistical numbers. HAH. Oh well. They are pretty though! Now to wait on the reds to fatten up. How long can you keep planting beets, anyone?
One last thing : These chinese green noodle beans have finally shot up! We harvest just a handful of them. At nearly 3 feet long these things can be chopped up and make a fine side dish of buttered pan fried beans. YUM

Is it really summer? Might need to harvest something!
Earlier V and I watched from the living room picture window as a frog made its way into the straw mulch beneath the Broccoli plants. Checked it out later on and it is still living there happily. I can accept that arrangement. It eats all the creepy bugs that wish to do harm. We therefore can go without spraying anything. Sounds very organic to me!
Concerning the east garden pest posting. We never ended up bothering to do anything about it. Appears it has corrected its own self for the time being. Either it is too dry for them or perhaps the frog we saw for the broccoli has a counter part over there eating them. Fine by me. I prefer to think gardening is really about nature doing the bulk of the work while we merely guide aspects of it for our own will.

When should they get flowers in Michigan? |
Should I have expected english pea flowers to be out much earlier than now? They have been in the soil for a while. Some of them have been getting chopped off and I suspect some animal was munching the tops. Besides the peas and other pretty flowers the broccoli is starting to head up. :D Happy Gardening everybody!
